Under the direction of the Product & Development Manager (Controls), the Electrical Engineer prepares design specifications and develops electrical systems, PCB schematics, software structures and controls for new and existing products to include accurate functional design, planning, application, installation, operation, and maintenance. Supplies technical expertise in the product planning process and conducts research to solve and improve or develop new methods and approaches to practical engineering and product problems that ensure quality, efficiency, and cost effectiveness; in accordance with company policies and procedures, in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Perform electrical circuit and digital logic design, component selection and bill of material creation/maintenance, ensuring the highest quality components at the most cost effective pricing. Maintain existing products, ensuring a balance between safety, reliability and a competitive end product cost. Coordinate with the Materials department to specify the appropriate and cost effective hardware needed for projects.
•Perform AC and DC motor control related product development and design activities to include product specifications, design schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, etc. to meet specifications/requirements and ensure the meeting of applicable engineering standards.
•Participate in the preparation of new product proposals and technology roadmaps.
•Participate in project management activities, ensuring the completion of the projects on time and within budgetary constraints. Create, update, and communicate project/program schedules, costs, and development status to the Material Handling Product & Development Manager as required.
•Develop prototypes and oversee the construction of new products or modifications to existing products. Develop test procedures and fixtures for product testing. Perform certification of products, to include testing for UL, CSA, etc.
•Conduct research to solve practical engineering problems in-depth and improve or develop new methods/approaches to product application, problems, and solutions to ensure quality, efficiency, and cost effectiveness; in accordance with company policies and procedures.
•Develop engineering manuals, standards, and methods for the department to include functional descriptions, sequence of operations, schematics, drawings, logic diagrams, supporting information on components, spare parts recommendations, installation instructions, etc.
•Participate on cross-functional teams to ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of processes, methods, productivity and quality, while reducing costs.
•Act as a technical resource and a mentor to train lower level engineers and designers within the department.
•Assist in verifying the technical accuracy of marketing materials and develop technical manuals for new and existing products, as required.
•Evaluate and process engineering changes. Notify and coordinate changes with various affected departments and outside vendors as required.
•Ensure the long-term maintenance, product improvement and cost reductions of assigned products.
•Perform competitive analysis of company products against competitor products when required. Evaluate competitor products to determine technological advantages or concepts that can be applied to the organization's products. Perform hands-on operation of competitors' products whenever possible.
•Complete and maintain all required paperwork, records, documents, etc.
•Maintain technical competency and remain current in technology and changes in the industry.
•Occasional travel to customer sites for start-up of new products, supplying technical expertise, etc.
